Position Alt. Ed. Principal
- Introduce to the media the difficulty of correct assessment using
static test in transient student population. Combine with #3 above.
- Use a comparison of the SAT 9 Scores from the Comprehensive High
School and the SAT 9 Scores from the Continuation High School after
the student has been enrolled in the Continuation High School for the
majority of the school year (more than 6 months).
- Portfolios with a combination of SAT/9 for students in continuation
for a year.
- Use diagnostic pre and posttests to determine growth.
- A Pre and Post Test would give us a growth indicator. We should be
judged on how well a student has done since entering "Our
School".
- It seems that a two-year comparison for those students who have been
continuously enrolled would make more sense. The other dimension that
I would encourage is multiple measures of success (student
achievement). If we can use other measurements besides SAT/9
- Have CCEA adopt a SECOND Test. CASAS- some of our students will go
on and exit through various adult schools. Use a combination of Two
years of SAT9 and at least 1 year of CASAS. WITH the CASAS ONLY BEING
GIVEN TO STUDENTS who have been at the school si
- Enrollment is OK in the second selection (above); however, real
learning and change seems to be taking place when students have
regular attendance (i.e. our district average is above 95%). Perhaps
actual attendance during the regularly scheduled class session
- Use SAT9 scores for students who were continuously enrolled in the
Cont. HS for one full year, regardless of whether they took SAT9 the
previous year. i.e., Enrolled 5/99; still there in 5/00 then scores
count.
- Continue to lobby for the return of the scores to the sending
schools.
- Only longitudinal testing should be valid (same student at same
alternative school over a two year period)
- This is the method we are using in assessing our instructional
program. A full year of attendance and academic offerings is a fairer
gage of how well we are doing with the students who are sent to us.
- Use attendance, grades and credits earned instead of SAT9 for any
student enrolled in a continuation school for one or more semesters.
- Why are the applications for model school in PDF format PDF cannot
be modified to put data into online. Ken Witte sonrise@aol.com
- Your second suggestion - paired scores for the same student - will
not work for the majority of continuation schools since 12th graders
are not tested.
- There are many alternative schools with low enrollment figures, thus
yielding a insignificant number of students for the scores to have any
validity. Then what
Position Alt. Ed. Teacher
- A random selection of SAT/9 scores from each grade level should be
selected and average. These should be selected from students who
attended at least 51% of the school year in a continuation setting.
- SAT/9 should be used 100%.
- Scores to be attributed to sending high school
Position Other Not Listed
- + an attendance %
- The numbers of SAT 9 scores from most of the Continuation schools in
our Region 2 are so few scores that it would not be a reasonable
indicator of students' achievement. I suggest that the scores be
tabulated as a total composite for all the schools in our region.
