The OASIS program (Orientation, Assessment, Self, Insight, Society) is designed to support and enhance new students' academic success.  For the first three weeks at Orangewood, students are together four periods a day in OASIS.  The primary goals of OASIS are: to strengthen students' sense of confidence, choice, responsibility, and community; to provide a smoother transition for both students and staff.  By the end of the program, students understand the policies, procedures, and opportunities of their school; have practiced goal-setting, self-reflection (daily journals and discussions), tolerance and cooperation (conflict resolution and peacemaking activities).  Most importantly, students experience a sense of belonging which is crucial to their success and which can be seen in our nearly nonexistent dropout rate.  The idea of bringing new students together for a three week Orientation Program has proven to be a simple, yet highly effective way to increase their educational success.
