The reading program is designed for students with reading levels below the sixth grade
level, and for those who need special help transferring these skills to the content area
classrooms. Some students have experienced so much success that they have been able
to pass the AB65/Torrance Unified School District Competence Exams for the first time, and
are now experiencing success in their other classes. One student's remark was that
he was finally able to understand his text books and found them very interesting.
His goal, when he first arrived at this school was to be able to read and comprehend at
least one sentence in each class. Now, to his surprise, he's not only able to read
his text books, but he enjoys reading many novels at home and at school. Students
not only improve their reading ability, but improve in their spelling and writing skills
as well.
