EXEMPLARY PROGRAMS A HIT!

In addition to the awarding of the Model Schools recipients on Sunday morning at our Annual Conference last April, CCEA proudly designated 18 programs as Exemplary. A dream of Bob Ehlers for many years, Pam Feix picked up the ball and made it happen in 1998. Designed to recognize those schools who are going above and beyond the day-to-day instructional strategies and curriculum, the Exemplary Programs recognized a wide variety of outstanding programs across the state. Her committee consisted of Dennis King, Arturo Santoya and Janet Knoeppel. Schools were asked to submit a brief write-up of a program they wished to have considered. Part of the criteria considered in evaluating the submissions was length of time in existence and the impact on students and the community. Also considered was the number of students involved in the program. Although not a requirement, several schools sent videos or portfolios detailing their programs. This certainly made the job of adjudicating the programs much easier. It is exciting to see how many wonderful things are going on in Continuation Education! Those schools honored in the initial year included the following:

District I

East High School, Fortuna
Zoe Barnum High School, Eureka

The time line for 1998 - 1999 has been moved up so as not to conflict with the Model School application process. Applications will be mailed in late October, due in December and the validation process will take place in January. The awards will be presented at the Annual Conference on Sunday, May 2,
