The Argus Infant Care Program is made up of two components.  These components are the Parenting Class and the Infant Care Center.  The Parenting Class is a Child Development Class for pregnant and parenting students (both male and female).  The students with children who are concurrently enrolled in the Infant Care program are required to be enrolled in the Parenting Class.  This class meets elective graduation requirements.  The Infant Care program is an on-campus day care for the children of Argus students, only.  Children are enrolled as early as six weeks old with a written note from the doctor saying that the child is well enough to be in a day care facility.  Children may remain in the program as long as the parent is attending high school and pursuing a diploma, and not over 2 1/2 years old.  Parent participation for one class period a day is required in the Infant Care Center.  The students learn the importance of prenatal care, child growth and development, and basic life skills.  Some special advantages of the program include such things as:  individual & group health instruction; nutrition & food preparation; daily lunch and snacks; well baby care; developmental activities for children; field trips for students; on-site physicals and vaccinations; prenatal care; community service presentations to local junior high schools; ECE lab experiences and referrals to community agencies.  Begun in 1989, the program has well over 50 students participating each year.  The large majority are young parents, but there are many non-parents who also enroll in this program.  The success story is to watch these students grow and mature into responsible and caring parents, and, at the end of each year to see a significant number of them receive their diplomas and be prepared to go on with the rest of their lives.
