The modernization of the school's business education program was basically a school-to-Work Project and was first developed in 1997 out of the necessity to create a business curriculum that was rigorous, relevant and realistic.  It had to prepare students to enter the technology-based, information-driven, global working environment.  It was clear from the outset that funds were not available  to complete this program in the size and scope envisioned, so a campaign was launched to raise money and acquire support from outside sources.  The result was partnerships which netted in excess of $25,000.  The classroom was "gutted" and reconfigured to provide access to the Internet, space for computers and work stations.  Mount Toro acquired computers and related hardware, software, TV sets, furniture and other technology related equipment and educational materials for the classroom.  The walls are now used not only to celebrate the many successes of the students, but also to advertise such things as "What's New in Business and Technology", motivational banners and posters and other appropriate items.  Close to 125 students participate in some kind of business education on a daily basis.  Students are now eager to develop and hone their skills through these classes in order to be prepared for the world of work following completion of their education.  The program has been recognized by the California Department of Education (the Governor's Council for Technology in Learning), and the California Technology Assistance Project (CTAP) for its significant contribution to student achievement through exemplary practices in the use of technology to enhance learning.  In addition, Mount Toro was a first round grant selection for Digital High School funds which has certainly enhanced the Business Education Program at Mount Toro High School.
