Continuation Principal's Institute

The Continuation High School Principal's Institute provides the most comprehensive presentation of the law, regulations and leadership issues that pertain to the operation of the continuation school. The Institute offers intensive exploration of topics that are unique to the contemporary continuation high school and it is an excellent staff development opportunity for those who are interested in improving their knowledge and skills as alternative educational administrators. It is also an excellent training program for those who are interested in becoming alternative education administrators or for those who seek to better understand the operational dimensions of continuation education.

The Institute is led by Joseph O. Stits who is a retired continuation administrator, former president of CCEA and currently is consultant to the CCEA Executive Board. He created the Institute in 1995 to meet a serious lack of focused professional training in the state and has conducted the workshop since that time. He has served as teacher, counselor, principal and assistant superintendent in public schools in California and was awarded the ACSA Administrator of the Year Award in 1993 for Continuation High School. He is one of the authors of the official CDE Attendance Accounting Manual for Continuation Education and he led the development and implementation of the criteria for the initial Model Schools Program adopted by the CDE.
